That's cool. Here is the link with the right minimum price ($1891): http://h71016.www7.hp.com/dstore/MiddleFrame.asp?page=config&ProductLineId=433&FamilyId=2460&BaseId=26852&oi=E9CED&BEID=19701&SBLID=

This will be an amazing workstation.

LOL, I just priced some of the parts and HP is charging $590 for 1TB enterprise SATA drive, $1,050 for 4x 2GB DDR2 ECC RAM and $69 for SLI bridge.

If money grows on tree I'll need a forest to have HP charge me this kind of workmanship.

I just clicked on the link of the article and tryed to customize my configuration but i dont see 6 cores Opterons anywhere on the processors options, the 6 cores Opterons models are 2435,2431,2427,8435 and 8431. I don't think the site is updated yet.

Are these systems faster than the Z600 (Xeon 5500) that HP offers? I Think they start at around $1600.00 Also. So which one is better?

As a former employee, I must add my 2¢. From my short stint with them, I was very impressed with their corporate beliefs, etc. It's the implementation that needs work. The people. That's the key. The product line is also not the 'back of the pack' either. HP offered Linux installations and support ahead of the field. Also, niche products like this workstation are usually marginally profitable (except for the free publicity generated by threads like this boosting their mainstream stuff), so it takes cajones to even offer this product, im (not so)ho.

We all build our own rigs, so I understand the impulse to flame any big OEM.

that's a lot of cores, i thought AMD is going away from creating multiple cores and then focus on their Fusion concept. o well, probably giving the opteron a fight against intel nehalem server cpus.
