[SOLVED] HP compaq help

So I have a hp compac 6200 pro sff pc and was looking through to upgrade it, not professional, but make the games and all run smoother than it is, I found a previous forum that said an MSI GEFORCE GTX 1050 TI graphics card would work, and I found one here (https://www.romantiea.com/msi-gefor...ress-30-x16-hdcp-ready-low-profile-video-card ) and then I found someone put a i5 2400 in it, mine currently has the intel pentium, which is pretty darn old from my understanding, I found that here (https://www.walmart.com/ip/intel-co...141017?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=1229 ) So are there any things I should be aware of when putting these in? and also for the procesor I found on my old one some gray dried paste (heat paste?) is that important, if so where can I get some?

The GTX 1050 and i5-2400 will work fine. You need thermal paste to apply on the new CPU (just buy it if you don't have).

and also actually, I'm not recommeding to play on built up PSU. The GPU need 300W minimum PSU requirement ( https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-4GT-LP/Specification ) and you only have 240W (https://support.hp.com/th-en/document/c02779493#AbT2 ).

If you can, change the PSU and everything will be fine.

Sorry I can't weight on much else, I'm not that great with hardware but I wanted to pop in to say I believe that's a scam website. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's less than a month old and its selling parts for extremely dirt cheap prices. Like really, really suspiciously low prices on things that cost FAR more than what they're selling it for. I saw other websites like this under different names a week ago when I was shopping for new CPU's and they had the same exact layout with similar pricing and they seem to vanish and reappear under different names. I would avoid that site, it looks really fishy to me.

Walmart is perfectly legitimate so no worries there but if you buy that videocard, get it from elsewhere. I would recommend Newegg, Amazon, or Walmart

And to answer your question about that gray paste, that's called thermal paste. If you buy a new processor you'll certainly need some new thermal paste. I would recommend Artic Silver or if you want to save a few bucks you can use this HY-883 brand, it isn't as good as artic silver but it should do the job just fine.

When it comes time to change your processor out I recommend cleaning off the thermal paste before removing the processor otherwise you might end up with very hard to remove thermal paste all over your fingers. You can clean it up by putting some 70% or higher isopropyl rubbing alcohol on a paper towel or on some toilet paper and gently rub off the old thermal paste. Avoid getting thermal paste or alcohol on your motherboard or on any other parts, and don't douse your CPU in rubbing alcohol. You just need a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to wipe it off.

So I have tried to upgrade my power supply before and nothing would work unless I wanted it external, so I looked around and found a couple other cards, again I am not looking for professional stuff just something to run minecraft and maybe some warthunder on so they run good. The 1030 (30W) have lower power consumption than 1050 (75W). I think you can run well with 1030. and both of them already GDDR5.

So I went with that and the games now run great!, the 1030 does run pretty warm(71+ on warthunder) so I was wondering if there was a little fan setup I could put onto or next to it to allow it to cool, and if so then what port on the motherboard would be the power?
(Edit) So there is a couple slots to put the graphics card in on the 6200, I put it in on the black slot, is there a fan that would fit behind it into that other slot? and would that be efficient? or should I get a little 50mm fan and hook that up?

If you got a heatsink only card without a fan it's going to naturally run hotter, but that card has a max temperature of 97c. As long as your temperatures aren't going into the high 80's and beyond you should be fine

I don't think there's much you can do outside of jerry rigging or returning the card and picking up one that comes with a fan.

As far as how you could get a fan on there...that's tricky. I've heard of people doing ghetto fan replacements by zip tying a fan to their heatsink (but keep in mind a heatsink is designed to get hot so you could possibly melt zip ties)

Heat resistant zip ties exist but I dunno how well they'd hold up long term

Some people went as far as gluing a fan to their heatsink using some heat resistant super glue but that stuff can become brittle with time and break, plus the vibration from the fan wouldn't help in that regard either. If the fan comes off and a blade catches something you could have a fan bouncing around in your case

I would recommend just leaving the GPU as is assuming your temperatures are in a safe range
