The driver for your model is in the Windows Update drivers -- there is no specific HP driver for the DJ 1280. Go into devices and printers and add a local printer, then identify the printer model and let Windows install the generic MS driver for it, it may need to download it so have Internet access on when you install the printer.

Download the Vista Driver from the HP website and unpack it. Go into add printer and click the "have disk" option. Point the computer to where you unzipped the drivers and let it install from there. This worked fine for me. Remember to select the USB option from the drop down list of ports and not LPT 1.
