Question HP elitedesk MINI 705 G5 won't boot with optional C port installed

705 g5 mini won't boot with optional C port installed in back port
boots fine with an HDMI port installed, but when I install the optional C port it won't boot, have tried two different cards (both brand new)
also called flex port pretty sure the part number was MT 3TK78AA

Check to see if the flex card/port is seated firmly onto the motherboard's PCB. Did you make sure your prebuilt is on the latest BIOS version? Did you also try and manually install your chipset drivers in an elevated command?

this second try was after the bios was updated
BIOS Version/Date HP R26 Ver. 02.20.00, 4/15/2024
and both times card was firmly seated (two screws hold it down)
have not tried anything with chipset drivers, was not aware I needed to do that

From an Amazon review:

Works great. But only AFTER going into the system setup and unchecking "USB Type-C Controller Firmware Update" under Advanced -> Port Options in the F10 menu. This option is enabled by default.

If not, it will try to update the firmware on every boot. In my case I got no display after that completed.

You might also want to save that to your custom default settings. Especially if you're going to use this for your primary display. (Which works great!)

I'm using dual monitors, but they are both on display ports, so not going to use it for display

restart F10 then advanced > port options> nothing like usb type C controller
(I have an hdmi port in there right now , it doesn't show up there)
I see front usb and rear usb (NOT controller)
and front usb type C downstream charging (that's the usb c on the front of computer)
nothing in that menu says controller and no more sub menus

If possible, with the device attached, try resetting the BIOS to its default state to see if it will recognize the "new" device after restarting.

That's the problem....
computer will NOT boot / start with new device installed.
indicator lights on front of computer and I have two black screens

Reset BIOS and then immediately power down. Don't boot into Windows. Then install device and power on.

Are you certain the device is fully functional?

yes, I have two devices both are brand new.
what do you mean by reset bios? default? ?
they were just updated, and it didn't work before the update

You can modify settings in your BIOS. Sometimes that cause other issues. When it does, there is usually a selection to restore the default settings. Not an update.

I am having the same problem with my two 705 G5 mini's no post, Just a lit power button after installing the flex port. Contacted HP support and the say 3TK78AA is the correct number. Any luck at getting a solution for this issue or a good source for the right Flex io? Amazon has one listed with that part but the picture is not the same and ended up returning it because of this.
