I have a HP G61-110sa Laptop which currently has a T4300 pentium in it which is a dual core processor.

I was wondering if its possible to put a core 2 quad Q9100 in it (or similar)? It seems to have the same socket but not sure if the motherboard supports that one?

In theory yes, if cpu is socketed and not soldered.

T4300 is a 35w 800FSB part while the Q9100 is 65w 1066FSB, so you are going above the standard thermal limit and existing memory speed.

T9300 could be your best bet to get a slight speed increase and move up from a Pentium to Core2, which in itself gets you a little more performance.

Hi Stig, many thanks for answering quickly.

If it increases heat significantly then I am not sure its worth upgrading. Its more important to have a working laptop that will last. It gets quite hot as it is.

Not actually sure what the RAM speed is, could be 667Mhz (judging by HP replacement part code), but its dual channel which effectively doubles the data throughput so unsure if FSB speed will be an issue in this case (i'm not entirely sure how FSB/RAM speeds work).

I think I will stick with the T4300.
