So, I had to sell my main gaming computer for the time being. Currently I have this HP-H8-1039 Desktop. I still have my GTX 970 laying around. I know I can't use it do to the fact that the power supply only has 300w (I believe).

Before I build my main computer again, I was wondering:

1. What power supply can I put in this PC?
2. Will this Desktop be able to handle my GTX 970?

Desktop Specs: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c02908817

Thanks!

Happy to help! The budget PSU will be fine, it's the one I'd buy in your situation. I just included the quality one because it's more efficient and fully modular rather than semi-modular. Regarding the case, I don't have much experience with a lot of cases, but I've personally reviewed the white version of the Xion XON-560 a while back on my YouTube channel: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208052 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6uAfrlVC0w (Shameless self-promotion? Check.) I really like the aesthetic of this case and the price point is hard to beat. If mail-in rebates bug you you can consider this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811353049
Hello!

Thank you so much for your response 😀

Okay, so I've heard about bottlenecking before. What exactly does that mean? Will it somehow break my PC in a way or effect my video card in a bad way?

Thanks!

Bottlenecking just means that your GTX 970 won't perform to its maximum potential because the CPU can't feed it data fast enough. You'll only really see this in GTA V or other CPU-heavy games, but for the most part you'll be OK. Bottlenecking doesn't break anything, and in a roundabout way it's better for the GPU since it doesn't have to work as hard ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh okay that makes sense.

I really appreciate you explaining it to me! Okay, so if I go with the budget PSU, would that be sufficient? And I don't know if you can help me out with this, I was thinking of getting a case for this desktop. Which one would you recommend?

I'm trying not to go all out on this PC since I want to save up for a different build, but I'll be messing with this one for the time being until I can get the cash for the big build xD
