HP Laptop HDD/SSD: "SMART Check : Software Error"

When I go thru diagnostics it says "Hard Drive/SSD SMART Check : SOFTWARE ERROR. Do I have any options? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you tried searching the internet?

This might help:

Can you let us know the exact model number of your laptop. Do you know if it contains a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or a Solid State Drive (SSD).

Really old laptops contain HDDs, more recent laptops contain 2.5" SATA SSDs, but modern laptops usually contain M.2 NVMe (or possibly SATA) SSDs.

If you're unlucky, your drive is failing and may need to be replaced. If you can still boot into the operating system, back up all important files to an external drive or a USB stick immediately.

It’s an HP Omen-15-dh1001nx

It contains an SSD and a 1TB HDD. The other link you gave doesn’t help, I’ve seen that on the internet before! I’ve tried installing Windows with a USB stick but I get a BSOD with the error: DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG

Are you trying to install Windows on the SSD or the 1TB hard disk?

What version of Windows? 10 or 11?

I get a BSOD with the error: DRIVER_PNP_WATCHDOG
Have you researched the possible causes of the blue screen?

It's difficult to say whether it's a BIOS setting problem, a faulty SSD (or HDD) or corrupted files in your Windows installation USB stick.

"Hard Drive/SSD SMART Check : SOFTWARE ERROR
If you can access a desktop PC, remove the SSD and the HDD from the laptop and test them both in the desktop (run CHKDSK, HDTune, Hard Disk Sentinel, etc). You can interrogate SMART data, or post test results on this forum. This should tell you if your drive(s) are OK. There's no point trying to install Windows on a faulty drive.

You could also try downloading a fresh copy of the Windows ISO and burn it to a different USB memory stick, in case your current stick is corrupted.

When installing Windows, disconnect the drive (SSD or HDD) which is not being used for Windows. You can reconnect the second drive after installing Windows.
