HP Laptop sound Please help

I have the HP Envy ultrabook 6t 1200 cto I just purchased it and have been using it for the past week, but the sound is constantly crackling and buzzing regardless of headphones or speakers, it buzzes when the laptop is plugged in. When it is unplugged it only crackles. Either way the sound is really messed up. Please shed some light on this, I have the warranty, but I have never returned anything so I would love it if anyone could tell me if it's fixable.

I could, but I have downloaded and transfered stuff over and downloaded many games, and I do not have an external HDD to back up, if I have to end up returning and replacing it I will, but I would rather know if this is fixable so I don't have to spend money backing up everything and having to redo everything. If anyone could shed some light on this.

Have you tried updating the audio driver? That's the only thing I can think of other than doing a complete re-install, but that means you have to re-install everything...

That's not going to be a driver problem.
It's either an issue with the onboard sound, or worse, an issue with the way the laptop is designed, causing a lot of electrostatic feedback.

OP, can you try plugging the computer into the power cord, and seeing if that alleviates it even slightly?

Which is why I suggested exchanging for a new laptop. But updating the driver is quick and easy and it also eliminates it as a possible issue.

Okay so my audio driver is up to date all my drivers are up to date as of so far when I checked it just now, when I plug it in, it actually makes the buzzing sound quite a bit, when playing videos and music and such.

Sorry for the late reply I had to find all my drivers and info and such and the whole windows 8 ordeal did not help.

Okay, that means that it's more than likely being caused by a very poorly insulated sound card. I did a little research, and apparently the HP envy 17 and 6 series are both plagued with this issue.

Unfortunately, there's basically nothing you can do to fix that aside from either replacing it with the same model and hoping it was a fluke, or returning it for a different model.

Ah, thank you so much for the clarification. That really sucks I guess I will either have to learn to live with ear wrenching buzzing or return it and hope it was a fluke. Thanks again for taking the time to help me both of you guys, It eased my mind a little, I suppose I will take some time to think about what I should do.

One last question though, if I decided to stick with this defective one would the sound card lead to more problems or will it just be an eternal defect?

It shouldn't lead to any problems with the motherboard, if that's what you mean. It could be a sign (if it's the actual sound card that has a problem, not just its shielding) that the sound card might die, though.
