Question HP laserjet 3302 FDW - scanned documents have a gray background on text?

Hi everyone, check this scan below done with my HP laserjet 3302 FDW:

You see the faint gray background box behind every letter?
That is not present in the original document, is an artifact of the scanning process.

It's really bad because then it also shows up when I print a copy of the document, doesn't look good at all...
Is this a software problem with HP hardware or a common problem across scanners?
There is anything I can do to obtain a clean (photo quality) scan?

For documents with only black text on a white background, ensure that the scanner it set to do Black-and-White scanning, and NOT Greyscale. Then you MAY have to make a couple trial scans and adjust the Brightness / Darkness setting that determines when the scanner calls some intermediate tone black or white - this will help get a clean scan with the background all white. Even if the text is not totally black but some fixed colour, this is how to do it. You need Greyscale scanning only when the page includes photos or sketches with varying shades of image darkness.
