HP Pavilion a450n only recognizing 1gb out of 2gb?

So recently, I asked a question on the forums about the max memory about this PC. It got solved but the problem is that my computer only recognizes 1gb out of 2gb. I went to set-up and saw that it registers only 1gb of ram there only as well. Both sticks seem to work since I changed their slots repetitively. Currently this computer has Windows XP on it.

Anyone know the problem and how to fix it?

Yeah, it might be.

Because when I put "A" ram stick into the first slot only, I get 1gb, but when I put "B" ram stick into the second slot with "A" I get the same, 1gb. After, I put "A" ram stick into the second slot without the "B" ram stick into the first slot I only get 512 mb. (With "B" in the first slot without "A" I only get 1gb)

So i'm guessing that maybe the PC can only read 1gb? Since with both sticks in I should have 1.5 gb.

any pc can read over 1gb. maybe its the different frequencies of the ram causing the problem
