HP Pavilion p6218f: is it possible to install RADEON HD6850?

Hello everyone,

I don't know much about computer hardware, so I need your help.

I have a HP Pavilion p6218f and thinking about upgrading its graphic card.

It currently has HD 4650 and graphic card that caught my attention is HD 6850.
I do know that I will have to upgrade my power supply as well, which is not a problem, but I am concerned whether HD 6850 will fit into my case as well as air flow inside the system.

My case is a med-size ATX and here is specification from HP website.

Do you think HD 6850 could fit into my case?

and for power supply, is 500w going to be enough?

Can you measure the distance from the back of the case to the where the HDD cage is?

See if your card can fit in that gap, and if the power connectors are on the back of the card, allow some leeway for that, also.

As for the PSU, 500w is more than enough. Just stick to a quality model.

For the graphics card, because your case isn't very well ventilated (I think, looking at the picture) I suggest you buy a card that has an external exhaust, example below.

that way most of the heat produced from the card will go straight out the back and not stay in the case.

Edit: I only found one model of 6850 with an external exhaust cooling system and it's a premium (overclocked) model.
depending on your budget, you may opt for that.

On further consideration, you may be able to get by with a non EE card. what i would to is make sure that it at least has a shroud that covers the whole body.

I also like it, because it's overclocked version. I guess I will have to measure the space between my case and HDD as you have suggested, which I will do in the morning.

Found one on Amazon worth looking into, Sapphire 6850.

I hope this solves your problem.

Small enough to fit inside your case, runs like hell and not an oc version which just adds extra $$$ to the price. You can OC a card yourself.
