I just purchased an old 2nd hand 4th gen HP ProDesk 600 G1 Tower and I am trying to put an old GTX 950 in it.

When I initially plug it in, it cycles 3 times without displaying and then gives me beep indicating it can't detect the GPU.
I can then manually power it on and off but it will only give display via the iGPU.

It's coming up in device manager and I have installed the drivers, but when I try and boot into the bios it does the exact same thing as when I first plug it in and it won't post. But it continues to post into windows just fine on the iGPU.

I know the GPU is fine as it works on 2 other PCs.
I know the PCIE port is fine otherwise it wouldn't register the GPU
The seller of the HP ProDesk 600 G1 Tower was running a 1050TI prior to selling it to me and doing a clean install.

So I presume its a combability issue between the HP BIOS and this GPU ?

Can you even update the BIOS on these old machines?

Anyone got any other suggestions?

If I remember right the GTX 950 requires a 6-pin aux PCIE power connector. Again if i'm not mistaken the 1050 Ti doesn't need a 6-pin.

Does the PSU in your system have/provide that 6-pin output?

Some 1050 Ti cards do require external power. That was a consideration when I bought mine. I got the fastest one that I could find that didn't need it.

I'm wondering how there can be a GTX 950 without a power connector, since it's supposed to be a 90W card, and you can't draw that from the PCIe slot alone.

It's right here:

Funnily enough it was something so simple.
The issue turned out to be either a faulty DVI cable or DVI port on the monitor.
One of the last things I ended up trying several days later was just getting one of the HDMI monitors and plugging it into that and volia, it worked immediately.

For whatever reason I still can't get into the bios when the card is connected, which seems to be a fairly common issue not related to issue I was concerned about, and is going to be of no consequence to the person inheriting this PC.
