Can I run my Dad's HP office jet pro 8600 plus all in one printer on my HP windows xp 64 bit computer? Where can I get the software/driver cd? I dont see it on the list on the HP site . Or, is it time to buy a new computer and new printer?
32-bit drivers will NOT run in a 64-bit environment. HP did not write 64-bit drivers for that printer as there are too few users to make it worthwhile. Not to mention that XP is years out of service at this point. It may be time to replace your hardware (you didn't say what you are running) as Windows XP is well past its use by date, and no further updates, fixes, drivers, etc. will be forthcoming.
Dang, I forgot about this being drivers and not just the software but I may have a solution you can at least try; the Xerox Global print drivers. They are supposed to work with any Pcl5/6 or PostScript printer and the link is o the XP 64 bit drivers. Just be sure to install the one that matches your printers capabilities (pcl5/6 or PS).
I wonder how universal that is but this one does. I think one of my clients/friend has 3 of these same ones and is looking to replace them. Not sure if the Xerox driver will work or not though and I do think the better option is to upgrade the OS to at least 7 as long as there are drivers for the system itself.
