So im a mechatronics engineering student and im looking for a laptop with the following specs:
i7 hq processor
15.6'' (nontouch) (better if ips)
at least 12 gb ram
im okay with 512 ssd but 1 tb hdd is fine too as long as it has 128 or 256 ssd too

I'll be using programs like solidworks, autocad, etc, and i'll be programming too.
Im also looking for a laptop that is not so heavy because i will carry it around.

These were the ones i found:

Asus M580VD-EB76
15.6'' Full HD (TN)
Intel core i7-7700HQ Processor 2.8ghz
16gb ddr4 Ram
256 gb ssd + 1tb hdd
GeForce GTX 1050 4gb
blacklit keyboard

price: $1049

HP Pavilion Power 15-cb071nr
15.6'' (IPS)
Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8ghz
12GB DDR4 SDRAM
1TB hard drive
AMD Radeon RX 550
blacklit keyboard

price: $832.02

They both have sort of the same specs, but which brand is better? Wich one will last longer or which one do you recomend?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Batistamadeline,
I would recommend the first computer. For the tasks you are doing and for the 200 dollars extra, there is an insane amount of difference regarding value. And for what you are doing right now 16 gigabytes of RAM will be way better as it can handle much more rendering, and more multitasking. The Graphics Cards are also very different. The AMD RX 550 is a budget graphics card, and I believe it will only be 2GB of GDDR5 memory, the 1050 with 4GB of memory is an insanely good card and can process triple-a games very easily so for your tasks it will be a breeze. The RX 550 might have a harder time doing that, and for the price differential I'd definitely go for the Asus. They both have i7's. But the ASUS also has the SSD with 256 gb of storage. That's a huge deal, SSD's are way faster than HDD's so you could put your main applications or even your OS on the SSD and it would be way faster. Keyboards are not a huge deal for what you're doing. And yeah a Full HD monitor on the ASUS provides a 1920 x 1080 which is ideal for many tasks such as gaming. ASUS and HP are both well known brands and I am currently using an ASUS monitor. ASUS does not use cheap plastic to make their PC's as they are known for their high end PC's. I'd go with the ASUS, much better for what you're doing. Good Luck! - valcan11
