Hi,

I did the swap you intend in one of my XW8400s a couple of weeks ago, and it worked like a charm. The XW8400 machine is notably faster than before, and runs rock solid. It even didn't get much noisier, though I used the stock 1-fan coolers of the X5160. My BIOS is the latest (2.38 if I remember correctly).

Warning: I did too buy a pair of cheap Xeon X5365 from China. At first they didn't work, and I was close to giving up, but then I noticed that Mr. Chinaman had put one of those LGA conversion stickers on the underside of each processor, though I didnt order modded Xeons. I could easily peel off the stickers, and BINGO, the XW8400 booted right away.

Cheers,

Armin.

Hello Adrian-Marian - I have a XW8400 Workstation. Runs very slow. I've been told I need to purchase new computer because the CPU's can't keep up with the software I have installed. I see you changed out your CPU's for your WX8400 Workstation. Did it work? Are you satisfied with the performance since? I appreciate your help.
