HSF help for AM4

Hello,

I bought Gammaxx 400 for a new build hearing it's ready out the box for AM4 and is decent performance for the price. However no matter how I try, it does not seem to fit. The clips on it just don't want to reach both the retentions and I stopped trying fearing that I'll damage the CPU or mobo. I went with the stock cooler for now but it isn't doing wonders so I need to get a new HSF.

Now, I'm afraid of another situation like Gammaxx. Because of that I'd like to ask some suggestions for a HSF. Money isn't exactly an issue but I'd prefer it to be on the cheaper side. Easy installation is a plus, something with screws maybe instead of clips. I'm rather new to building so I don't have much confidence yet when handling parts.

Mobo: MSI X470 Gaming Plus
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X
Case: NZXT S340

Thank you for any help!

Probably depends on when it was made.

A quick check on Amazon doesn't have it listing AM4 support. Newegg does though, so they may have newer stock.

You can probably contact Deepcool, they might send you a mounting kit for it. At the least they could confirm it supports AM4 based on some internal part number.

The usual recommendations apply. Cryorig H7, but it may have the same problem, depending on how old the stock is, they might not include the AM4 bracket, but they I know have a free bracket service to get one to you.

Same with the Cooler Master Evo 212, Scythe Kotetsu, there may be models out there without the AM4 mount.

Noctua has some models specifically for AM4, so you can't go wrong there...
That particular style latching hardware is the worse there is. I've had to install those type of coolers before and had fits. Try taking some of the curve out of the latching bracket before using it.
If all fails, move on to a cooler that has a better latching hardware or one that mounts to the motherboard (after removing the AMD retention bracket)
