You can buy an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows MR headset for about the same price as the HTC Vive Pro.

Or you could buy two Windows MR headsets for the price of just the controllers and base stations for the Vive Pro.

and yet if you took all the best parts from each of them they would still be behind the vive pro...

This is just their opening volley to milk early adopters. I would expect a big price reduction before Christmas, given that Samsung's headset with similar high-end specs is $300 cheaper.

Also the fact that 1080ti is still overpriced. I like spending money on bleeding edge tech, but I don't like getting ripped off for not waiting. 1080ti needs to be $700ish and VivePro needs to be $400ish otherwise better off staying with existing setup.
