Hi All,
Okay, I've had my HTPC build delayed for forever, and now I'm about to transfer the guts of a fine HP 8200 Elite SFF into a new HTPC case. Before I break the seal on the box, I'd like to have some idea of what I can and can't expect to get out of the included LCD that comes with my case. I had planned on getting the Antec Fusion, but ended up getting a ridiculously cheap Sentey SS1-2423. You can see it here:
http://www.sentey.com/es/ss1-2423-ss1-2423
Size-wise, I actually like it more than the Fusion, as it's less than four inches thick. I do miss the volume knob, though, and have to settle for two small volume buttons. But the remote will reign supreme, right?
Any-hoo, an option I liked about both was the LCD display. I almost lost my mind and went for the big-ass Monuel case with the 7" mini-monitor. Then thinking about how much of a distraction that big bright screen would be, I regained my wits again.
My question is this: What, exactly, can I get the display to do, and what is the best software/driver to use in order to do it?
The case is designed to display system information, such as temp, fan speed, disk activity, etc. I'm not interested in ANY of that. I'd like to hijack the screen to display song info, movie and TV titles, time remaining, maybe a volume bar or EQ, but those are less important. I also plan on integrating the Flicr remote, so I don't know how much that dictates the software, if at all.
Other factors are that I will be using Kodi (XMBC) with Emby plug-ins, NOT WMC, though it will be a Windows 7 64bit Ultimate environment.
The hardware, aside from the Sentey case with LCD screen (not VFD), is an i7-2600, 4GB RAM, 120GB SDD for OS and programs, 1TB HDD for library and downloads/rips, DVD Drive, ATI Radeon HD 3450 (should be adequate for TV, movies and music), + whatever mATX motherboard HP used.
Also, though the case is shown vertically, I'll be using it horizontally, which I'm not sure if it affects the LCD. I've read about the iMon software, but I'm not sure if that works with any ol' screen? Or are there better solutions out there, or can I reasonably expect to hijack the screen away from the case's original intentions at all?
All information and recommendations very much appreciated. TIA!
