HTPC media/gaming build

i currently have a intel nuc core i3 4gb of ram/ 120gb ssd
i use it to stream all my movies/tv shows of my unraid server.

i have a xbox one , but currently rarely play it , i am trying to sell both the nuc and the xbox one
since the price jump with games have no interest in paying 90 bucks for a game thats going to run on medium settings and a low resolution.

i am thinking about building a gaming/htpc build.
core i5 4460
16gb of ram
gigabyte mitx mobo
600watt psu
250gb ssd
fractal design node 305 case
as for video card i may grab a 280x or a gtx 970


any inputs? i want this to run games on 1080p max settings.

should i stick with intel? or try amd?
and do i need a sound card?

Use a skylake i5 and DDR4
2 x 4 gig of RAM . Games dont use more .
GTX 970. Cooler , and potentially quieter
No sound card , unless you have spent $500 on speakers
