Hyper threading support

Hi all,
On doing some searching on hyper threading support in 2000, I found that it
does not and if it is enabled the os shows as 2 processors. Mine is w2k
server (not advanced) but after the HTT is enabled it shows only as single
processor. Does it means that it supports? The system is P4 2.8 GHz, Intel
D865GBF motherbord 1GB RAM and the os is W2K sever with sp4. As I
understand, since HTT support is a feature and not a fix patches cannot be
issued for this. I check in both computer manager and my computer->
properties. I also used an api call to determine the no of processors...all
showed one. Hope you can shed some light on this.

I installed the os when the machine was having non HTT processor. We just
changed the mother board(along with the processor). We use the machine as a
server. I guess if W2K shows as dual processor the performance may degrade
(because there is actually only one physical processor)

Hi

You need to add support to 2K for the second processor to be recognised,
have a look at this KB article http://snipurl.com/7gcg AFAIK, the HT
processor is just recognised as a second processor on Windows.

Sounds like you have the singleproc HAL in place.

Thanks for your replies,

I think I have to clarify a bit. I actually only have one processor. But
with HTT enabled, I read somewhere that because W2K doesn't recognize the
logical processors, it shows as 2 physical processors. But in my case it is
showing only as one. Now I think it is because the os was installed on a
non-HTT processor and it can't configure the change of processor
dynamically.

I understand what you're saying but an HTT processor appears as two
distinct processors to Windows. You need to change the HAL to recognise the
fact you have two processors, follow the link I posted above and make a
simple driver change and it *will* work as two processors.

OK...I think I got it. You mean to say that even though I'm having only
single physical processor (with HTT) the reason why W2K shows it as single
physical processor (which it should be showing as 2 physical processor
because of the enabled HTT) is because I'm having singleproc HAL which
should be updated (as shown in the link), right?.
