So I'm in need of a new headset mostly for gaming as my old Siberia V2's have finally broken. After looking around quite a bit I've settled on the Hyperx cloud's but I cant decide whether to get the cloud 1's or the cloud 2's seeing as I have an old motherboard with integrated sound.

The difference between the cloud 1's and cloud 2's is that the 2's come with a USB sound card in order to use 7.1 virtual surround sound which I'm not interested in at all but considering the headphones themselves are 60ohms I've heard that they take quite a bit to power them properly or else they will sound pretty bad and considering I dont have a dedicated sound card and an old motherboard im afraid thats the result I will get if I buy the cloud 1's and plug them directly into my motherboard.

So my question is would my old motherboard be enough to power these headphones or should I buy the cloud 2's and use the USB sound card to power them? thanks!

Solution
the problem is that the soundcard that comes with the hxcII is crap and has many problems (you can read about them all over amazon) so you do not want to use the usb soundcard that comes with them. build quality is also not as good on the hxc2 as it was on the first version. the first version is generally recommended over the second.

as far as powering them, many onboard soundcards can power 60ohm cans, though if they do not you could always use a cheap xonar dg soundcard which can easily.

if you had a bit more of a budget, you might be happier going with a xonar dg soundcard, the sennheiser hd518 headphones paired with a cheap clip on mic like the zalman mic or cheap boom mic like the moovmic (total budget needed: about $110ish)

Alright thanks! That card is surprisingly cheap. I excepted most sound cards to be around $100 or more.

I will try them with my onboard sound and pick up a xonar dg if necessary!
