Well, I'm just starting to explore the capabilities of my dual head display on my 9800Pro. Is Hyrdavision worth installing? Does it add any features that are actually useful or does the functionality offered in the drivers do pretty much everything you need?

You won't find Spanning Mode if that's what you're looking for. I poked through ATI's dual-monitor software for hours with a friend, and we couldn't get it running to our standards at all (I run dualie on a Quadro4 and my friend loved how that works but it's impossible on an ATI card). ATI's software pretty much amounts to either cloning your screen to see the same thing on both (why?) or using the Windows XP built-in desktop extending software.

hydravision does get a bit more advanced than default windows expansion, but not a lot.

HydraVision is worth adding it will give you significantly more functionality. Don't listen to GraphixMonkey he and his friend obviously have issues with technology, and thus condemn things they can't get to work for themselves. And unlike his statements, it's not impossible on ATI cards, it's just not possible with the bundled software, which is a big difference he hasn't figured out yet.

For dual monitor, Hydravision should suit you fine, especially since you're new to it. Later you may want to go with 3rd party software to give you more options. Multi-monitor setups are great, and it should be fairly simple. However, expect a few bugs when playing games with dual monitors, because minor hiccups can cause problems on any multi-monitor setup. It should still be rare, so if you have games constantly crashing you may want to look to the forums for other people playing dually w/ the game you're playing.

Enjoy, and let everyone know what you think of it, when you get it working.
