so in my infinite wisdom i bought a i-7700k cpu and a Maximis VIII MB (Z170 Chip) i remembered something about the 7700k not being compatible with some boards and thought i had checked its compatibility with the Maximus VIII but i was mistaken. i have seen that i can update my BIOS with a flash drive and then the MB will support the processor however currently it just gives me a blank screen no power to the mouse and fails to POST. So just wanted to pick the forums brains and ask if it that sounds like normal behavior for this situation. frustratingly i cant find a flash drive and need to go get one so in the mean time please give your opinions. thanks

Solution
The system will not POST without the correct bios on the board. So we can't really troubleshoot until you try to load the correct bios revision.

So for now, it is responding as expected.

If i remember correctly on that motherboard you can install the bios without even powering up. If you have access to a another computer and a usb drive download this bios BIOS 3401.

Put the .cap file on the usb drive formatted to fat32. Stick it in the usb port above the bios button on the back of the case. Press the bios button. you have to hold the button down for 3 seconds. A light will start blinking on the button. When it stops blinking the new bios will be installed. You will be good to go.
What I have told you is on page 21 in the manual for your motherboard. The bios I told you to install is the latest one for that board. It is compatible with the i7 7700k.

yes you can this is how i plan to update my BIOS will post again when done. Thanks MWP0004 thats sort of the answer i was hoping for so hopefully it will be a simple fix with a BIOS update
