I accidentally downloaded 32-bit Java when I have 64-bit windows, how do I switch?

I feel like a dumba-- for just now thinking of this, but I've noticed that I'm running 32-bit version when I have a 64-bit OS. Its been like this for about three years and the reason I found out about this was because my games we're acting weirder than usual and I wanted to check it out. I just passed it off as game lagg and thought nothing of it. So I began researching and stuff until I made my way here. I have many games and applications on my hard drive but I want to know if I actually have to risk everything from wiping my drive, to reinstalling everything, and such. Any help is very much appreciated.

unintslla though ccleaner or control panel, hen download and install the 64 bit package

What do you mean? Do I have to wipe my entire drive? Do I just take out a folder and put and put a new one in? What?

Many programs using Java are quite happy with 32 bit version (if they to are 32 bit programs)

Is your Java upto date and current version ?
(due to risk of systems getting hacked / infected if using old versions)

I am a gamer so I found about this problem by a laggy minecraft. In games, lagg is something we don't want on our computers when we're killing a cow or slaying a dragon or sniping some guy, so I think 64bit is less laggy than a 32. Is is possible to have a step-by-step way of figuring out if I actually have a 32bit, and how to switch to 64? The way I found out I had a 32bit Java was because my chrome said I had 32.

Go on the link below to find out if your machine is 64bit:

If it is, then go to Start > Control Panel > Add/remove programs.
Find Java in the list and click "Uninstall"

Restart computer when done then go to the following link below:
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=98428


Once you've downloaded that, install it (that's the 64bit version of Java) and again restart your machine and you should be good to go!
