I am living in Germany and brought my American made laptop with me. I successfully changed over to German but now the keys are

Need an index for how to find the proper key after changing over to german from english

Why not make sure that in your regional settings you keep your input language at English? This will ensure your keyboard works as you expect it to.
Unless you're wanting the German layout, of course.
