i am planning on buying a 1GB graphics card for my system

which is better a Radeon or Geforce?
i am not able to decide on what i should buy. my system is a mid range system.
CPU - intel i3
RAM - 4GB
500 GB HDD..
please suggest a good graphics card for my system.

Radeon vs Geforce is something that can be debated. Sometimes it triggers a flamewar

Anyway the important thing is what is your budget? And what is your PSU?

when i first built me first gaming pc i got myself a GTX 650 and i still have the card in a box in my cupboard and use it from time to time when i do minor test builds
if you are able to squeeze out up to $200 on your gpu i would recoment getting a 2gb card just so you have that little bit of extra power

so mobo, which i3, what power supply you have and what case do you have? we dont wanna get you to buy a card that wont fit inside your case
and by the sounds of it ur pc is a pre-built
