Question I am wondering if I am getting a reasonable internet speed ?

Sorry 🙁

Any good ( I asked ChatGPT what to look for LOL)

SSID: BT-KWAH9M
Protocol: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
Security type: WPA2-Personal
Manufacturer: Qualcomm Communications Inc.
Description: Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Wi-Fi 7 High Band Simultaneous (HBS) Network Adapter

CHAT GPT is a idiot. It says the protocol is wifi5 but the description says wifi7. Very very different expected speeds.

The wifi connection depends on both the router and the wifi nic in your pc. If for example you have a wifi 7 router but only have a wifi 5 nic it will run at wifi 5 speeds.

Unless you are out to post bragging numbers on social media about how fast your wifi is, your speed is more than good enough.

Speedtest sites are almost shills for the equipment manufactures and the ISP. People seem to think spending more money to get a bigger number on speedtest actually means something.

As long as you have say 100mbps you have way more than any application needs. Things like netflix only uses 30mbps running 4k movies. Having more does not make it run faster or better. You could have multiple people watching different netflix movies and others playing games or surfing the net and still be under 100mbps.

The only thing that benefits from very large speedtest numbers is file download. Only you can put a value on the few minutes a month you save downloading some large game. The ISP is more than happy to take your money if you are the impatient type.

Far from it, it is about 20 years since I built a computer and what I have learned during the past four weeks especially with the help here has amazed me, however different sites, chat, facebook videos are all totally different on what to expect and according to some facebook influencers (I take everything with a pinch of salt) my system could be much faster.

Just don't get sucked into the marketing. A huge amount of social media is people trying to get money by making advertising look like something else.

The key to computers is does it do what you need it to do. Do you "really" need a $3000 video card to play candy crush.

Network is the same way. You have people post that they "feel" their online game runs better since they upgraded from 1gbit to 2gbit. They never bothered to look and see that the game is not even using 1mbit of bandwidth. They just want to convince themselves that the extra money they are spending was justified.

The large confusion is many people do not understand bandwidth and latency. Latency is the time it takes for data to travel to the server and back. It mostly is a function of the speed of light even though the path the ISP fiber takes is not always optimal. Bandwidth is purely the size of the pipe. They are not really related. It is similar a similar concept to the roads people drive to work. The speed limit is equivalent to latency. Adding more lanes to the highway will not allow to go faster. The only time bandwidth and latency are related is when you have exceeded the bandwidth...ie too many cars on the highway. This is why you need to actually know what the application you are running are using. Like I stated most household only need 100mbps internet plan.

I am thinking more and more the movie idiocracy is a documentary from the future. Marketing and advertising has gotten so much more intrusive since that movie was made

Thanks all

My only concern was, was the kit, arial, and built in "everything" that came with my motherboard board was up to it, from years of plug in adapters such as the old one I was using it is amazing but you never know
