A few days ago, Rogers came and set up some new hardware because my family switched to internet-based TV. A new wireless network was set up and every device in the house except my desktop computer can connect to it. We have 3 TVs that connected to it; both of my parents' computers (1 laptop 1 desktop) can connect to it; and all our smartphones can connect to it - however, my desktop cannot. Right now I can only access the home wireless network on my desktop by tethering my Samsung phone via USB.

I have tried changing wireless USB adapters (my original one was a TP-Link TL-WN821N and my new one is a Linksys WUSB6300) and that did not work. I reinstalled the software for the adapters as well as my Realtek PCIe GBE controller and that did not work. I looked through some Google search advice involving Winsock resetting and the usual Ipconfig release and renew method you get with connection issues and those did not work. When I did the Ipconfig approach, I got error messages stating that the operation could not be performed because the network has its media disconnected - I have never seen that before and thought it was strange, but I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to that stuff so I do not know what it means, if anything.

This is where it gets strange - I tried turning my phone into a mobile hotspot and my computer was able to connect to that network wirelessly. Every other device in the house can connect to the home wifi, and my computer can apparently connect to other wifi networks - something is going on specifically between my computer and the home wifi network, but I can't identify what's wrong.

My computer is a custom-built desktop with an Asustek p8z77-v lx motherboard. If there is anymore information needed please let me know.

Hmmm...that actually happened to me exactly!... everyone could connect except my PC.
It seems that the router is preventing your PC specifically from connecting due to an error in the software of the router.

The only solution that worked for me was contacting the router customer service and asked them to apply a new software after they failed to fix my problem.
Rebooting the router to factory default also didn't work

Things to check before contacting them

  • Uninstall your network driver from device manager then reboot your pc.
  • Run the troubleshooter by right clicking the network icon down in the right corner.
  • Unplug the power cable of your pc and the router for 20 seconds and try if it works.
