I cannot download anything.

I have tried to open files, download software, etc. It won't allow me to do anything. I had a nasty virus on 5/17-5/18 and I have not been able to open anything that was not already saved to my desktop.

Sounds like you may still have a virus. Lets start up the laptop in Safe Mode and see what's going on.

1.Immediately after the computer is powered on or restarted (usually after you hear your computer beep),tap the F8 key in 1 second intervals.

2.After your computer displays the hardware information and runs the memory test, the Advanced Boot Options menu will appear.

3.Use the arrow keys (UP/DOWN) to select Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking and press ENTER.

Once you've gone into Safe Mode with Networking:

Download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free

Once you have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free installed:

Run it and select "Perfom full scan" and hit "Scan"

Please reply with any results or if there is any change. If not it could be the virus has corrupted system files and may need a system repair.
