I cannot get my RAM to run at it's advertised speed.

Hello.

I've been trying to get my ram to run at it's advertised speed of 2400MHz.
I've got the Corsair DDR4 2X8GB/16GB kit.
On the box it clearly states 2400MHz yet it's only running at 2133.
It's also advertised with low profile memory for high performance overclocking.
Whenever I try to use the XMP or Memory Try it profile for 2400MHz my computer becomes unstable and comes to a full freeze during any stability test. (prime95/memtest)

I'm using the Intel Kaby Lake I7700K processor which i have overclocked (stable) to a 4.6 GHZ.
I'm also using the AMD Radeon R9 290 Video card which I have overclocked aswell to a stable 1075 core clock and a 1625 memory clock.

Now, all I want to know if why I can't manage to overclock my ram, especially since it's advertised at a higher speed than it runs.

My PSU is the VS650 Corsair.
I've got the MSI Z270 Gaming M3 motherboard.

Regards
Tom

2133 is the default speed for DDR4 ram.
To go faster, your motherboard must support the setting of ram specs.
What is your motherboard?

XMP is a profile imbedded in the ram.
It contains the settings to run at various speeds, voltages, and timings.
If you run cpu-Z and look at the spd tab, you will see what the ram XMP options are.
Then if the bios supports ram settings you can select the xmp profile you want.
Look for a bios advanced setting option.
If xmp is not supported on your motherboard, you can use the xmp profile and try the speed and settings yourself.

Ultimately, do not worry. the difference between 2133 and 2400 is undetectable.
- Your CPU overclocking settings might be interfering with your memory XMP profile which is itself considered as an overclock
- Verify memory voltage and timings are correct after setting XMP profile save/exit double check if settings are kept correct by bios.
- Other settings that you could work on: enhanced turbo boost and intel turbo boost.
- There is also an option in the bios to set memory clock manually (not through XMP profile)
