I replaced the motherboard and cpu in my computer and it took the upgrades very smotohly. I keep getting this thing that keep popping up saying I need to activate windows 8. I go to it and it says that its in use on another compute(aka my old computer ) So I try and contact support and that number won't work either. Is there another way to activate windows?

Win 8 'System Builder' is no longer tied to a specific motherboard.
The problem is that the number for the activation phone robot does not work.

What happens when you call the number?

Quite a good way of doing this is to use the integrated activation assistant.

Here's how you proceed:
1: Locate your product key
2: Open CMD as admin.
3: Copy this command: 'slmgr.vbs -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX' replacing the X's with your product key, then press enter (remove quotations also).
4: Copy this command: 'slui 4' and press enter, (remove quotations) and follow the on screen instructions.
5: Call the number given on the activation assistant and enter the code that's on your screen. (You can call for free with Skype)
6: You will be asked a few questions such as "How many computers are being used with the given license?" You must answer one PC.
7: Enter the number that they supply into the wizard and Windows will be activated.

Let us know how you get on.

It says I can't connect to the number and my phone line is fine and I can call anybody except that line.

But you have to use the phone activation method? That would be the same as before.

Not necessarily. Sometimes it autoactivates, sometimes you have to call. I've had it happen both ways.

But with Win7 OEM, Microsoft was under no obligation to activate an OEM license on a different motherboard. Sometimes they would, sometimes they wouldn't.

Ahh, you can deactivate the key: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/windows-8-product-key-deactivation-guide/6c5245de-8516-4c99-95fe-0fb458d849e5

To do this, would I have to put my old motherboard in an then disable it or will they do it?

^ Think of that option as a last resort.
Why can't you do phone activation? What problems do you face? Where are you calling from? I will be able to obtain the correct number for you.
That would be the best way as it is an automated process.

Nobody answers and it just buzzes.
