Hi
Just testing a new system on one of those cheapie test benches off of ebay. :)

Motherboard is an ASUS B650M-A WIFI II socket AM5. CPU is a Ryzen 7 7700X. ASUS website says CPU is compatible
https://www.asus.com/motherboards-c...desk_qvl_cpu?model2Name=PRIME-B650M-A-WIFI-II

RAM consists of 4 Crucial 24GB DDR5 modules. Should be ok there.

BUT CPU power is another thing. There's the usual 24pin ATX connector, and a 8pin ATX power connector and a 4pin ATX power connector. I've seen two 8pin ATX sockets on server boards, but not on a "desktop" board.

My PSU only has a 8pin ATX connector. The motherboard powers up and the heatsink fan starts spinning but no POST.

I'll do some more diagnosing with the RAM sticks and see how I go.

Could not having that extra 4pin ATX power connector plugged in affect the POST procedure?

Try with two sticks of ram in slots A2 and B2. Please pass on the link to your ram kit.

On second thoughts, when posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model.

Ok sorry. I'll list what I know...

CPU - Ryzen 7 7700X
CPU cooler - AMD RGB stock cooler.
Motherboard - ASUS B650M-A WIFI II
RAM - Crucial 2x24GB DDR5 PRO series (two sets to 96GB total)
https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr5/cp2k24g60c48u5
HDD: Seagate 500GB
GPU: GTX1050Ti
PSU: Generic 500W PSU
Chassis: ebay test bench
OS: Linux Mint 22 Cinnamon edition
Monitor: HP 27in 1440p capable

Update
I got it to POST!! Initially I had an old PCIe video card plugged in (of dubious nature). I decided to power up and let it "sit" and hopefully sort itself out. After 2-3 minutes I got 1 long beep and 3 short beeps. Looking in Google this relates to a GPU error? So I powered down, took out that old card (which I have never tested before) and inserted the GTX1050Ti card. Powered up again and let it "sit". After 1 minute or so it beeped once, then a display appeared.

Mind you it takes a long time to POST. Is this normal for the newer boards?

It's normal to take longer time to post specially when starting first time and after after CMOS reset. It's mostly due to "Memory training" when BIOS has to recognize it and set to some defaults. After that it should be much faster.

Hey
I'm still having some issues with this board. I've decided to continue this thread rather than start a new one.

So, I installed the said board into a case. Same CPU (Ryzen 7 7700X) and 96GB RAM. Video card was a GT1030 from another PC that I had bought a week ago.

Board beeps like it's going to start, CPU fan spinning and hard drive spins up but no display? So I tried another card, known to work (GTX1060). Again no display or beeps this time. Tried another card (which I'm unsure of - RX580) and again, no display or beeps.

I had a generic LGA1155 board that I was trying to sell off and thought I'd set it up and test these cards. The board is working well. GT1030 video card - all good. GTX1060 - all good. RX580 - no good. :(

So I tried the cards in the Asus B650M board. GT1030 - POSTs! I shut it down and tried again. Yes! And I tried a third time. NO power up at all. Nothing. BUT if I leave it for a few minutes, it sometimes powers up again? GTX1060 - no powering up. I tried the RX580 for good measure and, nothing.

I thought that the PSU could be dicky (CoolerMaster 750W Gold) and swapped it for a 850W Xigmatek model. Same issue! So not the PSU.

Tried something else with the Asus B650M board. Removed two RAM sticks. Upon powering up, I got 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. Google tells me that something is up with the graphics card. So I replaced the GT1030 with the GTX1030 card. Same 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. Removed another RAM stick (so one left inserted). Same 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. I removed the remaining RAM, so no RAM installed. I was expecting 1 long beep and 5 short beeps, but only got the 1 long beep and 2 short beeps?

I bought the Asus B650M board off an ebay auction. Board was described as never used. I was beginning to think that the board is a bit "flakey". Returns aren't accepted but I am covered by the ebay guarantee policy. It's outside the return window now but I will contact ebay and see what they can do.

Here in Australia, if an item is faulty, it's up to the retailer to arrange repairs or replacement. I have contacted the seller on ebay asking for a receipt of purchase, so I can then chase the retailer down and get the board checked out. I've done this before with an Asus graphics card a while back. I've yet to hear from the ebay seller so will give them a few more days.

Sorry for the long post. Thank you if you've made it this far.

Quck q: can an old PSU (ATX 2.0) not work properly with the latest motherboards?

Coz I keep coming back to PSU issues. I can boot up, shutdown, boot up, shutdown, and then no response from the power button.
