I have a Windows 10 computer I am streaming to a Denon receiver via HDMI. I want to record non-protected video using the computer and I am not able to get quality audio to record. The only selection in the recorder software is microphone which provides audio when I select it but when I play it back the video, the audio is not the quality audio being played back through the speakers. Once in a while it will work for about and hour if I reboot the computer.

How can I add a selection that works properly?

I use Total Recorder software. It can record both audio and video. It's priced quite reasonable. One can program it to record at selected times, also.

I have tried other recording software and I have the same problem. As my post says, The only selection I have in the record audio section is "microphone" which does give me quality audio. I need to know how to add a different device that will give me the same audio played on my speakers when I stream content. I have gone on the Denon site to try to find a solution there but have not been successful.

Perhaps you should consider stream-capture software. I've used the Applian Media Catcher software for capturing and saving streamed content and it gives you the highest quality that the stream is capable of. Or perhaps you just need an audio driver software update for your motherboard so that you have full access to all of the audio sources its capable of. You should have more than just microphone as an audio source; usually there's one marked Stereo Mix which allows you to capture the "what you hear" sound stream. Perhaps if you identified the specific motherboard you're using and the specific audio/video you're trying to record someone could give you a more definitive answer. (At least I could confirm if Media Catcher works for that stream).

Great input. I will work on suggestions and "stereo mix" which I do not have. I will come back with a message if I can not resolve the issue.

I determined the motherboard manufacturer and upgraded all drivers. I then specifically updated auto drivers. No change in problem. Still cannot record sound.
