For now, I suggest that you perform the methods below and check if you can run Windows Update.
Method 1: Windows update troubleshooter
This is an in built tool which will help you detect and fix errors with update.
1. On the search bar type Troubleshooter
2. Click on Troubleshooting and click on the Settings tab below the search box.
3. Click on the Find and Fix problems tile and then click on the view all button the left pane.
4. Click on the Windows update troubleshooter and run it.
Close Windows Update, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then run Windows Update again. You can also wait for Windows Update to run at its next scheduled time. If issue persist, proceed to next method.
Method 2: Windows Services.
I would suggest you to check if you are able to access Windows Update services and also make sure that the following services are started. If it is not started follow the below mentioned steps:
a. Press Windows key + R, type services.msc.
b. Locate Windows Update service.
c. Right click on the Windows Update service and select Properties.
d. In Start-up type, select Automatic.
e. Click Start under Service status.
f. Click OK.
g. Repeat the steps c to f for the following services also:
Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Windows Time, Windows Installer & Cryptographic Service.
Note: Startup Type for Windows Installer will be greyed out by default.
