I was struggling on taking out my gpu and i'm worried I might've damaged the pins inside the pcie slot, plugging the gpu back in causes the vga light to turn on and display nothing. GPU is working in the second slot but performance is way worse, is there any easy way to tell if the first slot is completely dead?

Unlikely, but give it a visual inspection in case you have broken the little clip. Your card is probably not sitting right, if you have.

Forgot to mention I've tried 2 separate gpu's, neither had an output but i'm still not crossing out it could just be how they're sitting in it. I switched case and mobo yesterday so I'd be surprised if my slight recklessness has already caused something this damaging, tempted to see if getting a vertical mount helps but don't wanna jump to that in-case the slot is just dead.
