I encountered a strange problem

After I connect my laptop to my house's Wifi network, I need to make a dial-up connection in order to get access to the Internet.
I find this strange because people have told me that after I am connected to a Wifi network, I do not need to make dial-up connection any more.

I think so because the smartphones can connect to the Wifi and have access to the Internet.
It is only the laptops which needs to make dial-up connection to get access to the Internet when the laptops are already connected to the Wifi network.

A PC and a laptop both need to connect to the home wi-fi and then make dial-up connection to get access to the Internet.
But all smartphones can connect to the home wi-fi and then have access to the Internet. (no dial-up connection is required)

No, it didn't happen like that.
After I click my wifi connection, the status will change to "connected".
I then need to make dial-up connection myself to have access to the Internet.
Otherwise, the home wifi status is "connected" and there is no Internet access.

Ok you connect to the wifi and get access to the router but not the internet, now your router settings is what you have to look at.

But the smartphones are working fine. They are connected to the Wifi and have access to both the router and the Internet.

Still the router is not letting the computer connect, so check those settings is the only thing I can think of.

Have you tried disabling the cellular network connection on your phone so that the only connection available for the smartphones is your home wi-fi? It is possible that the smartphones are connecting to your home wi-fi, but still using the cellular network for internet connectivity.

If this is the case, it would support rolli59's guidance that your router is not actually conected to the internet.

Exactly what I was thinking. Smartphones could just be working off the cell network, not wi-fi.

Reset your web browser to default. You may have set it up to try to start a connection. There is one under "always dial a connection" in the Connections tab in IE for example.

Need some more info what exactly is "make a dial up connection" that you are doing, where from and what are the steps you take?
