So I have a AMD Radeon R9 280X which I have been told is a pretty good graphics card for gaming but for some reason I get horrible fps on some games. I played mirrors edge recently and I got 5 - 20 fps on the lowest settings, there's other games I can't run well also like arma 3.

Manufacturer: ATI
Memory: 4096 MB
Category: Enthusiast

DirectX: 12
Name: AMD FX(tm)-4350 Quad-Core Processor
Manufacturer: AMD
Speed: 4.2 GHz
Category: High Performance
Generation: 12th
Brand: AMD FX-4000
Cores: 4

Any feedback would really be appreciated. :)

Here are a couple of things to check :

-Make sure you have the latest AMD drivers for your GPU.
-Make sure the Display cable is connected to the GPU's port and not the motherboard's.
-Check that the power cables are properly plugged into the GPU.
-Make sure Windows is properly detecting the 280x.
-Check your CPU and GPU's temperature readings when gaming using a program like HWMonitor64 and tell us about the results.

That doesn't tell us the maximum temperature reached by the CPU. Thermal throttling could very well be the problem, since you're getting really low FPS. Your GPU got to a high usage only once or twice on the graph, which isn't a good sign when you're getting low FPS. Normally, it should go as high as it can to give you as high a FPS as it can, which doesn't happen here. 47 degrees Celsius is good for that GPU, so it can't be the GPU that is throttling.

Using HWMonitor64, you will be able to see the temperature of your components and it will also record the highest temperature and usage of most parts. It's not always the best program, but it's easy and simple to use.

But it shouldn't be that bad. We're talking about an FX-4350, so overheating and thermal throttling issues are very plausible issues. Even more so if he's running on the stock cooler...

I have a R9 280X not a 380

If you do only have 4gb of RAM, I would also recommend getting another 4gb with the same frequency and timings, because 4gb is pretty limiting for a computer these days. But it doesn't explain your FPS, as games like Mirror's edge only recommend 2gb of RAM, and that's not even the minimum requirement.

You should definitely be running at 1080p in those games, because that card can totally take it.

You CPU usage does seem pretty high, but since it never reached 100%, I don't think it would be holding your card back.

I'm not sure what to think of those results...
