I want to connect a smart tv that is connected to the wireless router (and can access the internet), to my laptop without having to plug in to the tv.

Your post cut off because you tried to type it in the title instead of the main body.

What are you trying to accomplish with the laptop? If you want to have the TV display the laptop screen, use a video cable to the TV. There are wireless devices that transmit a video signal but they have pretty short range and anything that works properly is expensive (over $100). You can also get a Google Chromecast dongle for some things http://www.google.com/chrome/devices/chromecast/

I am having a similar problem, trying to connect/project/screen share my Dell laptop with my new smart LG TV. I actually managed to do it once, with windows 8.1 by right side of screen swiping jewels, tapping devices, tapping project, tapping locate devices, then selecting my smart LG TV. This screen shared/projected the movie I was watching on my laptop to my TV, worked really well for one hour, the stopped, with my lap top displaying a message that the LG TV was not windows supported. I have since had many conversations/chats with LG, Microsoft, and Dell, with no success. Followed suggestions by Barbs Connected World http://digitalmediaphile.com/index.php/2013/07/15/how-to-use-non-certified-play-to-devices-in-windows-8-1/ also with no success. Very frustrating, unable to do what TV advertises to do.

Would love to hear from anyone with suggestions apart from cables and extra devices, should be able to function without them
