Hello,

I am a newbie and I have a question about IP cameras. I am interested in installing 2 IP security cameras in my residence. Since both cameras will be in the same LAN, do the 2 cameras have to have different port numbers?

Thank you

Solution
Lets assume your cameras use port 80 for HTTP access. You would setup port forwarding on your router for port 8026 (first camera, using the IP address as part of the port) to 192.168.42.26:80. To access that camera you would enter http://173.56.21.14:8026 into your browser. But you REALLY need to setup a dynamic DNS listing. Your public IP address is probably not static.

Thanks for the information Kanewolf.

Kanewolf,

I have another question. I am just using examples here:

lets say that the public IP address on my router is: 173.56.21.14

and the private IP address on my router is: 192.168.42.106

and the IP address on the first camera is: 192.168.42.26

and the IP address on the second camera is: 192.168.42.37

Now lets say that I am in a foreign country and I want to access my cameras but I did not use a DNS server.

What numbers would I have to type in to access the cameras?

Thank you.

May I ask another question?

Although I am pretty sure that every device on my LAN is using port 80, how would I know for certain? I logged into my computer as Administrator. I ran ipconfig and netstat. If the port numbers were there, then I missed them. I use Windows 7.

Thank you
