i have a question about serial ports and com ports

i need to know if a Serial RS-232 9 pin port is the same as a com port? i have a device that uses a Serial RS-232 9 pin cable and the only thing i have on the back of my motherboard is a com port are they the same if not what are my options as far as hooking this serial cable up to my pc

heres the specks for my io back panel on my mobo

im trying to conect my old cybiko to my pc but it uses its own proprietary rs232 serial port cable its a 9 pin on one end and a diff connector on the other

Yeah, although proprietary on the one side, it is a standard 9pin serial connector (COM port) cable on the other. I found this video entertaining, he points out that port's function at 3:48 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojatBoMZubk I've only gotten that far and I'm going back to the video now (I'm getting a kick out of it)
