The easy answer is yes, but you can only have one device set as dhcp server. Call your ISP tech support and ask them to disable dhcp and set surfbord modem into bridge mode.

Note: it is possible to run both device with dhcp enabled, but it will cause more problems in the long run.

Its a motorolla modem router combo. We have our internet through a caoxil cable. What kind of problems will arise?

Most router have NAT enable by default. Running 2 side by side can cause problems like no connection, intermittent connections, missing network service, and ip addres conflicts. By puting your surfborad in bridge mode it disable NAT, and stops it from handing out ip address.
