I have an intel 2310 CPU, Should I switch to an FX 8350?

I got an intel 2310 CPU back in 2013 thinking it was a good budget option that would last me a full generation but I was surprised to find that this CPU struggles to achieve high framerates on newer titles no matter what settings I disable. Battlefield 4 runs on an average of 50FPS on the most demanding map and 60FPS in general at the lowest settings paired with a GTX 960. My motherboard is also having issues with the RAM, so I might aswell upgrade the chipset aswell. Would an FX 8350 pair well with my GTX 960? And would it be a significant upgrade?

Yeah if youre going to upgrade go with skylake or just wait for the next AMD cpu and see if its actually worth upgrading to. One thing most people don't understand is that frequency and core counts only matter when youre comparing architecture to architecture. Yes youre dual core i3 has less cores and runs at a lower frequency but it has a way higher IPC and way faster internal cache rates. My i3 3220 still works like a champ at gaming, If you do upgrade to a new platform like that seriously consider going with an i5 skylake. It will last alot longer then an old 8350 which has been out for years

FX 8 cores: For work stations
AMD Athlon X4 860K: For gaming

Have cash:
i5 for gaming
i7 for workstation and gaming

Thats odd, benchmarks for the FX say otherwise. It actually competes well with 4th gen intel processors, especially with newer api such as directx12. Ive seen the FX push more than 100fps on demanding titles. Is it really as bad as you guys say?

the FX series is bad, it performa amzing in some games where as in other it has an unplayable fps due to slow single core speed, if all games used 8 cores it would be a different story though, in bf4 a 8 core is slightly under an i7 where as in starcraft 2 its below an i3

on a budget? for avout 200$ you can get a i3 and mobo. for 250$ you can get skylake i3 and mobo anddddd ddr4. that will set you up for a i5 or i7 later on! even though ddr4 is not fully utilized. give it time.

Zen CPUs are just around the corner so I'll wait for those and make a decision. If they are priced competitively I'll consider the switch. If they still fall behind intel on gaming then I'll probably upgrade to skylake. Thanks for the help!

thats a good idea, alot of people are waiting for zen to upgrade CPU wise
