I have cleared cmos in my hp compaq 8100 elite sff. Now the pc won't boot. It shows only a black screen with a cursor. Please help me to solve this problem
No POST is considerably different than Windows not booting. Try only 1 stick of RAM. And if you cleared CMOS with the jumper, make sure it's not still in the clear position.
The most obvious reason is if Windows was installed in IDE or RAID modes (these PCs did actually ship with RAID configurations), while the default setting is AHCI. That's a change from the previous dc7xxx models which defaulted to Legacy IDE.
