Core i5, playing older game, and the pc shuts down. I'm on an NVIDIA graphics card that's about two years old. Battlefield 1942 is the game. Single monitor set up, and windows sometimes reports that graphics card is not registering monitor at startup. The pc only shuts down when in the middle of the game, and other games. I had a driver which wouldn't update during Windows 7 updates. I checked the driver out, and the driver software was developed by "unknown organization" so I deleted the file. The problem was occurring before the driver software was deleted so I doubt they're linked.

I recommend one or all of the following:

1 - Do a complete fresh reinstall of your OS. Gets rid of any dodgy drivers.

2 - Double check your PSU and that it has sufficient wattage to power everything in your system. Always use a quality power supply.

3 - Bypass the graphics card entirely by connecting your monitor to the motherboard and using Intel's onboard graphics chip briefly to test if the same thing happens.

Good luck!
