Hey guys,

First thing, my build:
NZXT H440 Mid Tower
Gigabyte H170-Gaming 3 Motherboard
Core i5 6600
Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB (2x4GB) 2133MHz DDR4
Asus GTX 750ti OC 2GB
Seasonic M12II 620W
PNY 480GB SSD
Windows 10 64bit

So a quite a while back I noticed that my power button on my NZXT H440 needed to be long pressed in order for my computer to boot. My ORIGINAL PSU was a Corsair CX600. At first I figured it was the PSU or the power switch. This went on for months. Recently I upgraded my PSU to a Seasonic M12II 620W and AT FIRST the problem was gone! A couple weeks later and the problem has resurfaced!! I'm not sure what to make of this. I need some help.

Thanks you.

Solution

Easy way to see if it's the power button.

Shut the pc off.

Remove the Power Connection from the motherboard front panel.

Use a screw driver to short the pins and see if it starts right away.

I've had this cpu for about 2 years now. How would I tell if my mobo is faulty? I dont have any other issues beside this.

Im not that savvy with hardware. What pins? is that safe?

Get you MB manual out and locate the Front Panel Header.

Looking at the picture find the power switch pins.

Remove the connection.

Touch the pins with a screwdriver.

Yes, it's safe as long as you just touch the pins.

So, the first time, was fairly instant. probably took 1.5secs(guesing), but no more. I tried twice more and the last time was practically instant. What does that mean? Is it ok to keep testing? like this?

It's the power button that is the issue.

Reconnect it and see if it still works.

Actually, I still have the issue. howver, I think you have convinced me its the power switch. I will look into getting a repalcement from NZXT (but I wont hold my breath).

Final question, Will using the power button do damage to my other parts? Should I just sleep my cpu and awake it with keyboard until I find a replacement Tower?

Thank you.

Personally I would sleep it until the new button arrives.

But no I doubt you would damage anything.
