I have windows installed but it still gives the select boot device

Hello, i have Windows XP installed but a couple of days ago it gives me the problem that i have to select the boot device. I looked in the BIOS and nothing looked wrong. And i don't have a floppy disk installed but it still shows it in the BIOS. What can i do?

Verify the boot order in the bios. Perhaps the motherboard battery is dying thus preventing the bios from maintaining it's settings.

I disabled the floppy disk. But how come that i can't boot into Windows while 1 week ago i was still enable to get into Windows

Even with a working battery i get the same problem. (I know the battery works because i got it out an other computer)

You can also try resetting your motherboard. The motherboard manual should tell you how to do it. it's usually either a reset button or two pins that need shorted. It can also be done by removing the battery for 5 - 10 minutes then putting the battery back. You may need to go into the bios afterwards and have it load optimized default and reset any values that you may have initially changed.

Well nevermind. It was my HDD. When i connected it to a TEST PC. I started smoking very bad.
