I just installed an i7 4790k into my computer previously I had an i5 that worked well. Now that I have reinstalled the CPU with thermal paste and all it only turns on for about two sec then turns off a few seconds later it turns on for about 5 sec, this repeats over and over. I took out everything except one stick of RAM to make sure the psu worked. That was all fine, I heard the beeping. I have looked everywhere and haven't found a solution. I had the same problem when I first built the PC but can't remember how to solve the problem.

I hope you guys can help.

I was in your exact situation, went from a 4670k i5 to 4790k.

Computer would turn on for a few seconds, then power off, then back on. It would then stay on but no display on my monitor.

After hours of troubleshooting, it ended up being a bent pin in the CPU socket. I was able to bend it back with a razor and all was good.

I've done this twice, bending the cpu pins. It's way easier than people realize, even being delicate with the whole process, it can be done on accident very easily.

Tl;Dr Maybe take the cpu out and check all the pins. Probably not it but worth a shot.

You could also put the i5 back in, and if it works then I'd guess it's some sort of problem with the i7.

Also make sure your bios are updated to support the 4790k. When I first put in my 4790k I just had a black screen because my mobo wasn't recognizing the cpu until I updated.

I looked at my pins and nothing looked out of place, I put in my old CPU and it would turn on for a bit without anything on the display and then turn of and turn on again. Do I have to buy a new motherboard? That is the only thing that I haven't tried
