I am a rebel and will defend my old ass dos games to the grave, I grew up playing Commodore 64 games, Zork for PC and went on to many of sierra's and lucasarts adventure games.

As of now I have two games installed on my system they are, Return to Wolf3D (yes I refuse to call it by its 'proper' name) and Nascar 2002 Season.

I like games with a story, I thoroughly enjoyed GIANTS (an awesome game, I recommend it to everyone) and slightly enjoyed Sacrifice but would not recommend it.

I find games like Sac. to be more like work than gaming fun myself. Its like click click click, and the faster you go the better you are, and Yes, I am very good at that if I want to be, but thats not my idea of a fun game.

A fun game is LucasArts Full Throttle or Monkey Island series.. they have to be better than everything on the market today for storyline. And funnier.

So how do I get sound for my dos games in XP? Or do I have to go back to 98SE? That doesnt bother me as it was as stable as XP for me, I just think the stability of those older OSs depend on the ability of the user, but they they are very flaky compared to a true 32bit OS.

Also if there are any good adventure games out you know of let me know. I love games with a good story. I enjoyed Warcraft 1, and 2 when they were first released (yes, I played Warcraft 1 before the series exploded on the scene).

I like my gameplay old school and prefer my graphics new school if i can get both.

I want to whole heartedly recommend the above mentioned Full Throttle to everyone who reads this, I think that was one of the most satisfying and entertaining games I've ever played.

"dude your getting a dell", is that kid trying to say he wants to stick his 'dell' in you?

Nevermind on the sound part I found VDM sound, a SB16 emulator for NT/2K/XP that works with any sound card!
Very cool and works well.

But wasnt XP supposed to have SB emulation built in? I'm not sure if I have the final build of XP so was wondering if any of you that have it and are sure its full if it does work.

This is so sweet, well I'm going to play Monkey Island 2 now, I never did play that one!

Cya guys hope you have fun playing your new games!
edit- and when is neverwinter nights coming out? that does look pretty cool.

Return to Wolf3D (yes I refuse to call it by its 'proper' name)
Have you forgotten about the origional Castle Wolfenstein? The games theme resembled first 2d Wolfenstein than the shootfest that Wolf3d was.

Blah, Blah Blahh, Blahh, blahh blah blahh, blah blah.

No... SB emulation was something not included with XP, nor was it ever intended.

The fact you are able to run the DOS games is actually pretty amazing since DOS support in XP is supposed to be non-existent. Glad you found an emulator that works, because I know for a fact that XP wouldn't have had it.

If you design software that is fool-proof, only a fool will want to use it.

Wolf2D? Yeah I know of that one but never played it when it came out. I just meant that its more of a return to the 3d wolf of days of yore.
and of course forgotten lore!

I guess the dos support in XP is dos box emulation.
Another thing I wish XP had was better windows 3.0/3.1 support, I have a game (Pirates Gold for Windows) that does not like XP but was designed for 3.1.

Im satisfyed and impressed overall with the level of backwards compatibility. I probably could use 98se on dual boot tho.
