I lost files on my desktop during a update and can't find them now

I had Senior pictures on my desktop in a file and during a update on firefox and windows, it blinked and half of all the files dissappeared and can't find them anywhere!!!!!!!!! PLEASE help, my son will not retake them 🙁 I tried system restore, took out the hard drive and put in a usb reader because the user is corrupted. Looked for a jpg files and nothing!! about 5-8 files all gone.

Download recuva, run that on the drive, look through it and you might find the files.

Also don't install/place/move anything to or from the drive, don't use it at all just plug it into the usb reader then when you find the files you want to keep save them to some other drive. (such as the main drive in the system, not the drive you are recovering them from)

see if you have a folder Windows.old on your system drive (C might of moved the files there.

Windows only does that when you are reinstalling windows without reformatting the drive.
