hi everyone. I need advice. right now im using a msi gaming x gtx 1060 6gb video card. there is a gigabyte amd rx 580 8gb video card on sale for 220 dollars which I think is a steal. but im not sure if the 580 cards are still worth it. should I buy it and replace the 1060? then sell the 1060. or should I stick with the 1060? I like how the 580 has 8gb of vram, but I hear the 1060 is a better card. thanks.

If you are US and a bit patient, the GTX 1080 cards are going to get cheaper for a bit. I recently picked up a 1080 for $400, and am sure with a bit of looking there will be more.

I will say this. If you are gaming at 1080/60 there is no significant reason to upgrade. If I read correctly seems you said something about having an R5 CPU, which would be borderline of what could run significantly higher frames or resolution. Getting a "better" GPU isn't always the thing to do, based on your build and assuming a lack of current issue.

No, don't replace the GTX 1060.

They are very very similar in performance and likely only have minor differences depending on the game that they play. But to actually buy an RX580 and replace the GTX 1060 would be spending money for the hell of it in my opinion. It's not really much of an upgrade, more of a side step.

If you had NO GPU or a lower GPU, I would likely recommend the RX580, but not when you already have a 1060.

I was also considering buying the rx 580 as a backup card to my 1060 due to the very cheap price. also because my ryzen 5 1600 does not have onboard graphics so I was thinking maybe its a good idea to buy a cheap backup.

that sounds like a good idea. I can pick up the gtx 1070 ti for around 450 dollars. is that a good upgrade?
